Ingredients

  • 1 lb of sirloin steak
  • 2 sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1 tbsp of butter
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1/4 tsp of black pepper

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Medium pot
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Season the steak with salt and pepper on both sides. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add the steak and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness is reached. Remove from the skillet and set aside to rest.
  2. While the steak is cooking, add the cubed sweet potatoes to a medium pot of boiling water. Cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are fork-tender.
  3. Once the sweet potatoes are cooked, drain them and add them to a mixing bowl along with butter, minced garlic, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mash everything together until smooth and creamy.
  4. Slice the steak into thin strips and serve alongside the sweet potato mash.

Notes

If you prefer a thinner consistency for the sweet potato mash, simply add more milk until you reach your desired texture.
