Ingredients:

  • 4-5 medium-sized potatoes

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • A handful of chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

Equipment:

  • A pressure cooker
  • A frying pan
  • A spatula
  • A knife
  • A cutting board

Method:

  1. Wash and peel the potatoes. Cut them into small cubes and set them aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
  3. When the seeds start spluttering, add chopped onions and slit green chilies. Saute until the onions turn golden brown.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and saute for a minute.
  5. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and garam masala powder. Mix well and saute for a minute.
  6. Add potato cubes and salt. Mix well.
  7. Add 1 cup of water and mix well.
  8. Cover and pressure cook for 2-3 whistles or until the potatoes are cooked.
  9. Once the pressure releases, open the lid and cook on medium flame for 5-10 minutes or until the gravy thickens.
  10. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.

Notes:

  • You can adjust the spice level according to your taste.
  • You can also add vegetables like carrots and peas to the dish.
  • You can skip the pressure cooker and cook the potatoes in a pan. It will take longer, but the result will be similar.
